Abstracts

This series of painting begins with an idea of art as a journey of the human spirit through time and space. Through the creative experience and its direct link to the unconscious mind we move past the experience of direct observation and enter the domain of speculation and inward looking or lucid dreaming.

I begin a group of canvases, working on several of them at once, trying out different colours and compositions. As the work continues I focus on manipulating the materials, pouring, airbrushing, sanding, scraping, layering, each action subtly altering the color or composition.

Colours and patterns that occur in both nature and synthetically begin to interact along the border of consciousness of the visible world. Inspiration becomes enhanced by what is being apprehended, no matter how ordinary it appears.
