Alberta Landscape
The wonderful landscape in Alberta is often bathed in a magical light, so matter the temperature. In winter there is a thinly layered blue sky that takes my breath away. Closest to the horizon is a pale turquoise, above that floats an ultramarine cloud gently blending to rose pink. These colours are so pure and astonishing, drinking them in with my eyes creates an overwhelming sense of awe. After spending time soaking up the atmosphere on any given day I return to the studio to paint, to bring the beauty of nature into my space and eventually to share the experience with the viewer. Sometimes I paint a field of grasses and wild flowers tossing in the wind of sundown, or the sky turning navy blue with darkness. Often I like to paint mountain views, hoping to resonate with people who live near mountain landscape in other countries as well. I have never tired of painting the golden forests in autumn, they literally vibrate an infinite range of yellow against the blue sky. My view of nature is simultaneously real and imagined, displaying and evoking a wide range of human experience to my vision which is much more than a photograph. |
