Cityscapes
At the beginning of the pandemic we were advised to stay indoors, businesses and schools were closed and grocery stores developed food delivery services. Going for walks in my neighbourhood I noticed people in their homes, looking out windows, dancing around their furniture. The downtown area was scary and desolate at first, apartment dwellers peering over their balconies, waiting. We were not sure if it was death or a vaccine that would arrive first. As the bright Alberta sunshine began to bath the buildings in spring light the vaccine arrived. My paintings use colour to communicate contradictory and elusive feelings, tumult and calm, the tragic and joyous. These compositions feature square boxes and windows, evolving to become more focused on the windows and relationships of squares, leading to the series titled "Geometry of Light". |
